The first Tournament of Roses was staged in 1890 by members of Pasadena's Valley Hunt Club. Events included everything from marching bands and motorized floats to foot races between elephants and camels. Although football made an ephemeral apperance in 1902, the Rose Bowl did not become an annual event until 1916. Now, serving as the championship game of the PAC 10 and Big 10 Conferences, the Rose Bowl is one of the most popular college football events each year, standing as the pinnacle event of the Tournamet of the Roses.
